- Mahjong Tiles
Although the origins of mahjong are uncertain, the fast-paced four-player game is extremely popular throughout Asia. Mahjong Tiles is a game that may be played as a leisure pastime with family and friends or as a method to bet.
What is it?
Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and chance, similar to the Western card game rummy. Although certain regional versions may delete or include unique tiles, the game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols. Each player starts with 13 tiles in most variants.
How to Make a Score?
Whoever completes the mahjong and wins the hand receives one point. Several more complicated scoring patterns vary greatly by area. Bonus point-scoring gives you an extra point if you don’t take a discard, win with the last tile in the game, or have a pung of dragons. Each pung receives 2 points, which are doubled if the pung was not disclosed, doubled if the pung utilized ones or nines, and doubled twice more if the pung was a kong. Players should agree on scoring rules before a game because there are so many scoring variants.
